
Animal Encounters

Take part in an interactive, educational experience with one of Australia's native icons! This sticky-beak little creature is one of the most interesting animals around, and you’ll never forget your up-close encounter with the spiky Echidna!
Package Details
Timing and Days
- One Echidna encounter is held daily.
- There are only 4 spaces available per encounter.
- Echidna encounters are held at 1.15pm - 1.35pm
Bookings
- Bookings need to be made at the Information Desk by 12.30pm on the day of the encounter.
- Minimum age requirement is 6yrs and over
Extras
- A professional photographer will take photos of your encounter. These photos are available for purchase from our photography lab 30 minutes after completion.
Terms and Conditions
- Parents or adult guardians must take responsibility for participating children at ALL TIMES and accompany their children participating in the encounter. A maximun of (4) four people can take part in an echidna encounter at one time. Minimum age requirement is 6yrs and over
- As these encounters form part of the echidna's enrichment and learning program, it will not be considered a formal session
- Participants must agree to follow all instructions from the handlers, especially regarding the feeding and touching process
- Participants may be asked to cease the encounter for whatever reason at the handlers' discretion
- Please ensure that you wash your hands both before and after the encounter
- Participants are required to wear sensible footwear at all times during the encounter
- No personal items or human food are permitted during the encounter, with the exception of cameras and video cameras. Any excess items can be stored at the information counter for the duration of your encounter
- Please remember that Echidnas have very sharp quills and are quite capable of inflicting injury
- Do not under any circumstances attempt to roughly handle the Echidna
- Australia Zoo does not take any responsibility for any injuries that are received during the encounter, including bites. First Aid will be called if required
- An Australia Zoo photographer will be present during the encounter to capture the action. All photos taken will be available for purchase from the Fuji Photography lab
